Model for involving parents in strategic decision-making

In November 2007, Lynn saw an opportunity through Young Lives to bid for funds from Huntingdonshire Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership (Hunts CYPSP) to set up a model for involving parents in strategic decision-making. She submitted a successful bid, which was to develop the idea of setting up an independent parent-led organisation called pinpoint to lead on parent participation. Cambridgeshire’s Parent support strategy

As a result of the work carried out for Hunts CYPSP (see above), in April 2008 Lynn and Juliet Snell (a community consultant working on a project to develop the involvement of VCS organisations in Cambridgeshire) were invited to submit a bid through pinpoint to consult with parents in Cambridgeshire on their parent support needs. The bid was successful, as was the consultation - over 1300 parents took part. Cambridgeshire's Parent support strategy: how we will help parents bring up their children was written by pinpoint based on the findings of the consultation. Family Information Service

Using the findings of the parent support strategy consultation (see above) pinpoint was asked to write a report for Cambridgeshire’s Families Information Service on what the consultation had said about parents’ information needs. We also arranged a series of workshops to let parents try out the Family Information Service Directory, website and contact centre and to tell us what they thought of it. Parent Support Adviser report

pinpoint was also asked to write a report on the implications of the Parent support strategy consultation (see above) for the role of the Parent Support Adviser. For a copy of the report contact Sharon Byrne.

Children and Young People’s Plan: The Big Plan 2

pinpoint provided early indications of messages from the Parent support strategy consultation to the people working on Cambridgeshire’s Children and Young People’s Plan ‘The Big Plan 2’. Timely Information to Citizens pilot to provide better information to parents of disabled children

As a result of a successful joint bid with the LA, pinpoint has funds from the Timely Information to Citizens pilot to work with children, young people and parents to develop the pinpoint website to provide better information to parents of disabled children, and to give them opportunities to comment on some of the services they use through cambridgeshire.net.
