learning and school
This is one of the topics parents told us they wanted information on. Let us know what you would like to see included.
Complaints about schools
The first point of contact for any parent wanting to make a complaint about a school is through the school itself. Each school should have a complaints process, and this should be shared with you.
The Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) is piloting a new complaints service in Cambridgeshire. Since 19 April, parents and pupils in Cambridgeshire have been able to complain to the LGO if they have an unresolved complaint against a school and have suffered injustice as a result of the ‘prescribed functions of a headteacher’ or the actions of a governing body. If you would like to know more, read their letter of introduction or visit the schools page on the LGO website.
Legal advice
You can get legal advice on educational issues from Coram Children's Legal Centre. Their website has some leaflets you can download free of charge. If you are eligible for legal aid (they can check for you) they can give you free legal advice and representation. There is a free legal advice line 08088 020 008 and an online "Ask Lisa" question and answer service.
Inclusion Development Programme for pupils with special educational needs
Parents attending the behaviour workshops we facilitated recently said that children who display challenging or complex behaviour in school would be better supported if all schools implemented the Inclusion Development Programme (IDP). If you would like to know more about the IDP, read Judith's IDP report.
