speech and language
On this page we have put together information about speech, language and communication issues.

The I-Can website explains what speech, language and commuication issues are:
"Children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) find it difficult to communicate with others. Some children find it hard to: understand what is said to them, form words and construct sentences, find the right words to express thoughts and feelings, and understand rules for social interaction and conversation".
Here is a list of websites and organisations who may be able to help if your child has speech and language difficulties:
- Cambridgeshire's Speech, Language and Communications website - strategies and activities page
- The Communication Trust and Hello
The Communication Trust is a campaigning voice for children with speech, language and communication needs. We raise awareness, influence policy, promote best practice among the children's workforce. In 2011 the Trust ran the Hello campaign. The Hello website provides some great free resources like ‘Universally Speaking’, a guide to the ages & stages of children’s communication development from birth to five. Also, take a look at ‘What’s typical talk at Primary’, which again covers all ages & stages of communication development from 4 – 11 years.
Finally don't forget to check our events section where you can find details of regular speech & lanaguage events across Cambridgeshire.
