understanding the system

Big BenParents told us they wanted information on how government and health systems work.

We have been looking around to find simple leaflets explaining how Cambridgeshire County Council and National Health Services work.

Cambridgeshire County Council Children and Young People's Services have a guide called 'Your guide to :Social Care Services For Children And Families'.

We have not yet found a similar leaflet explaining about the various services provided by health and mental health services. However, you can search for services such as GPs, hospitals and dentists on the Cambridgeshire NHS website home page. Mental health services are provided by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. See the useful website links section on the right of this page.

If your child has additional needs or a disability, Leaflet 4. Where to start from the Parent Information Pack introduces you to some of the services you might need.

Help from Team Co-ordinators

Following a successful pilot within Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire Disabled Children’s Team have introduced a Team Co-ordinator as your first point of contact for any enquiries when your allocated worker is unavailable. The team Co-ordinator will be able to help with issues like:

  • Transport Arrangements
  • Queries with any paperwork that is sent out to you.
  • Queries about financial matters.
  • Advising you when meetings will be taking place.

The latest leaflet (August 2011) from Huntingdonshire Disabled Children’s Team is available at the bottom of this page.
