social care services

Cambridgeshire County Council logoYou can find out about social care services from the Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) social care website or you can download Leaflet 5. Social care services from the Parent Information Pack for more information.

Parents wanted other parents to know about the social care complaints procedures. Cambridgeshire County Council has a Complaints and representations page on their website. We contacted Cambridgeshire County Council to ask them how complaints and FOI requests are used to inform better practice, and how parents find out what happens. Read more here.

CCC Disabled Children’s Emergency Care Scheme

Many parents worry about what would happen if they had an emergency which would mean that they were unable to care for their disabled child or young person. Find out more here.

Changes to social care in Cambridgeshire - January 2012

The Children's Social Care Service in Cambridgshire is going through a major change to the structure and delivery of its service. The County Council has produced a full briefing to the new structure called 'A Guide to Social Work - Working for Families' which you can download below but these are some of the key points.

This restructure is all about having a more consistent approach to social work and sharing responsibility for social work across a unit. The aim is for children to remain within their families and communities as much as possible with swift removal if deemed necessary.  As a result of the changes it is hoped that:

  • Workers can spend more time with children and families, and less time on administrative tasks.
  • Children and their families experience the fewest transitions possible.
  • Children and families experience greater consistency of care.
  • Families are supported and challenged to care for their children safely so that children can remain with their family, when it is safe for them to do so.

Other changes to the service include:

  • The first social work units will go live on 23 January.  There will be two Access units and two Children in Need units in Cambridge City.
  • There will be three disability units which should go live at the end of January.
  • The referral process via the Contact Centre will remain the same.
  • Families that are involved with social care will receive a letter about the changes and will keep their current social worker if possible.  Mobile numbers will be handed out which has not been done before.
  • A ‘Tell Us’ website is being developed (live by 23 January) which will be open for stakeholders (including parents) to use to feed back.
