tips for searching activities

The activities search can help you find events, days out or clubs for you, your young people and families. The search will not find every activity going on in Cambridgeshire but it should give you some good information and new ideas.

The search has four main sections which are:

  • What
  • Where
  • When
  • Price

Find out more about the most important information you need to search for activities.

What

  1. Search by keyword - The keyword is one of the most important pieces of information to include when you are searching. The type of keyword depends on what you are looking for.

For example if the activity is for your young person or child, the keywords 'disabled, special' will be helpful.

You can also include more detailed information about your child's disability or additional need, for example 'speech, language' or 'autism'.

If you are a parent or career looking for an activity you could try keywords like, 'mum', 'dad', 'young parent' or 'grandparent'.

We recommend you only use two keywords at a time.

  2. Search by type - Although this section lets you choose the type of activity we recommend that you always choose 'All events and activities' which is the first item in the list. There are a few other useful types like 'Days out' which you might like to try.
  3. Must be suitable for - This is the other really important piece of information. You must choose either 'Children and families' or 'Young people'
  4. Specialist provision - We recommend that you choose 'Anyone' which is the first item in the list.

Where

  1. Near to - It is important to choose your nearest town or village from the list. For example, 'March' or 'Cambridge'.
  2. Postcode or other place - As long as you have chosen your nearest town or village you do not need to enter a postcode or other place name.
  3. Within - We recommend that you choose '75km (46miles') the last item on the list to get the best results.

When

  1. Taking place - We recommend you chose 'Any' the first item on the list.
  2. Or on a specific date - If you do want to do an activity on a particular day then you can click on the calendar and chose the date.

Price

  1. I don't mind paying - you will generally get more choice if you choose 'I don't mind paying'.
  2. Free (for non-members) - it is fine to choose 'free' but you will probably have less choice.

Example 1.
