Involving parents of disabled children in strategic decision-making
In November 2008, pinpoint was commissioned by Cambridgeshire County Council to help develop the involvement of parents of disabled children in decision-making. This work is linked to the participation requirements of Aiming High for Disabled Children and Every Disabled Child Matters. The contract has since been extended until March 2013. You can find out more on our get involved page.
DfE (formerly Together for Disabled Children) parent participation grant
pinpoint has the Department for Education (DFE) parent participation grant in Cambridgeshire. This grant is for developing the participation of parents and carers of disabled children and young people, and to support pinpoint in our role as Cambridgeshire's representative on the National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF).
Transition Team Parent Carer Forum
We facilitate a Parent Carer Forum for the Transitions Team at Cambridgeshire County Council to help them get parents of young people who are likely to need support from adult social care services involved in developing their service. Part of this project involves running regular 'Talk about Transitions' events for parents and carers.
Parenting Project Board parental involvement
We have been involved in writing Cambridgeshire's parental involvement strategy. We are also commissioned to help them deliver some of the work in their current Parent carer involvement strategy action plan. This work has now also been extended until March 2013.
Child Poverty
Cambridgeshire County Council has asked us to help them engage with parents of children who are living in poverty linked to work they are doing to develop a Child Poverty Strategy.
Inclusion training
We have funding from Cambridgeshire County Council to train parents of disabled children to deliver a new course called "Opening Minds, Opening Doors" to childcare providers and others. This project also provides a route for parents of disabled children to get back into paid employment.
Participation training and facilitation
We provide a range of support and training to Children's Centres, schools and others to help them develop the way they involve parents in planning their services.
